SUNSCREEN SPF30

What is SPF30?

Sunscreen Protection Factor (SPF) of 30 means that it extends the time it takes for your skin to burn in the sun by a factor of 30 compared to not wearing any sunscreen at all, hence the importance of sunscreen.

2 types of SPF30

1- Chemical sunscreen: It absorbs UV harmful rays and then turns them (rays) into heat which is then released from the skin. This is how this type of sunscreens prevent the UV rays from penetrating deep into the skin.

Chemical sunscreens are made of organic compounds (Carbon-based) which absorb UV rays hence protecting the skin against sunburn, cancer, and other damages.

2- Physical sunscreen (or mineral sunscreen): When applied it acts as a barrier that reflects and scatters the sun radiation away from the skin.

These sunscreens contain active ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. When applied to the skin they provide immediate protection, and are proven to be effective against both UVA and UVB rays helping to prevent skin aging, sunburn and skin cancer.

Conclusion:  Physical(mineral) sunscreens sit on the skin’s surface and reflect UV rays, while chemical sunscreens absorb and neutralize these harmful UV radiations.

Note: You may find a Combo sunscreen (a combination of both techniques above) mainly aimed at blocking broad-spectrum radiation.

Depending on your skin type, you can experiment with these sunscreens to find out which one works best for your skin condition.

Always choose the sunscreen that suits your skin type (generally SPF30 or higher is recommended). Also experiment with the form i.e. cream, lotion, stick or maybe spray.
